Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, is due to arrive in Tehran on Friday for a five-day visit, reported CINVU. This is the first visit to Iran by a UNESCO director-general in ten years.
Deputy Minister of Science, Hossein Salar Amoli said on Wednesday April 23, Bokova's visit follows an invitation by Reza Faraji Dana, Iran's Minister of Science, Researches and Technology (MSRT). Ms Bokova is also going to visit archeological sites in Isfahan and Shiraz, Amoli added. He said that separate meetings with Iranian ministers of Sciences, Education, Energy, and Culture are also on Bovoka's agenda.
Irina Bokova, born in 1952 in Sofia, Bulgaria has been the director-general of the UNESCO since November 15, 2009, and reelected for a second term in 2013. She is the first woman to lead the Organization.
