President Rouhani due to visit Turkey
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to pay an official visit to Turkey at the head of a high-ranking delegation on June 9, reported CINVU. During his visit, Rouhani will hold meetings with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said on Thursday that talks on cooperation in the energy sector will be the main issue of discussion in Turkey. The Iranian minister arrived in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Wednesday and met with the Turkish prime minister and other officials including Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. He added that based on extensive cooperation between Tehran and Ankara and their positive historical ties, Iran prefers that any pipeline which can transfer Iran’s gas to Europe pass through Turkey.
During the January visit by the Turkish prime minister to Iran, Erdogan underlined his country’s resolve to bring its economic transactions with Iran to some USD 30 billion by 2015. Iran and Turkey also agreed to hold a joint economic commission session in the near future.
